    All – here some dates you should be aware of heading into the 2024-2025 season.

    Aug. 26: State testing is now open at thsboa.arbitersports.com. Here is the link that will take you to the STATE DUES Registration and Testing site — http://thsboa.arbitersports.com/front/108492/Site

    Sept. 8: First new/2nd year officials meeting, 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church Hall, 1340 Murchison.

    Oct. 15MANDATORY RULES CLINIC, 6 p.m., First Presbyterian Church Hall, 1340 Murchison.

    Oct. 20: First General Meeting, 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church Hall, 1340 Murchison. (Per PP Policy 7: “To be on the Playoff List an official must have passed Rules and 3-Officials Exams with 90% or better. Paid Local and State Dues by 1st General Meeting and be in good standing with Chapter requirements.”)

    Nov. 1: First day of scrimmages for girls.

    Nov. 7: First day of games for girls.

    Nov. 8: First day of scrimmages for boys.

    Nov. 10: Last day to accept new members.

    Nov. 14:  First day games for boys.          

    Dec. 8: All state tests must be taken.

    Dec. 15: Top 20 officials will be voted on.

    Dec. 31: State Testing on concludes.

    Jan. 26: ELECTIONS, 6 p.m., First Presbyterian Church Hall, 1340 Murchison.

    Feb. 16-17: Girls Bi-district Championships.

    Feb. 23-24: Boys: Bi-district Championship

  • Mandatory Rules Clinic, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15

    The El Paso Basketball Association of El Paso will have its of Rules Clinic, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 1340 Murchison.

    This clinic is mandatory for everyone in the chapter. If you are unable to attend the clinic, a makeup session will be at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20 in the church chapel .  The cost of the makeup clinic is $25.

    The vendor from Officials Gear Outlet will be on-hand from 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 15 and after the clinic for anything you might need for the upcoming season.

    Treasurer Mike Sanchez will also be collecting local dues and applications for the 2025-26 season.

    For those who would like to turn in their point sheets, secretary Victor Martinez will be there to collect them.

  • Board-appointed positions filled

    The EPBOA Board met Monday, June 9 to interview candidates for varsity assigner and sub-varsity assigner.

    We are happy to announce that Danny Padilla was voted in as the varsity assigner. This is a two-year term from the 2025-2026 season to the 2026-2027 season.

    We are also happy to announce that Vincent Robinson has been selected as the sub-varsity assigner. This is a one-year for the 2025-2026 season.

    In addition, Zeke Sanchez and Jaime Marquez each ran unopposed and by acclamation have been named chapter rules interpreter and new officials’ trainer.

  • Services for Jeff Williams are Friday

    It is with heavy heart to announce the death of Jeff Williams, a beloved official and friend to many in the basketball community.

    Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

    Jeffery Louis Williams Obituary 2024 – Sunset Funeral Homes

    Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at Sunset Funeral Home, 9521 North Loop.

    The rosary begins at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills Blvd.

    The committal service will be at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza. 

  • Looking to officiate high school basketball? Here is how you do it

    The El Paso Basketball Officials Association (EPBOA) is accepting new officials for the 2024-2025 season.

    The Association officiates UIL middle school and high school basketball games in El Paso, Clint, Mt. View, Anthony, Dell City and Van Horn.

     Our first New and Second-Year Officials Meeting is Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Small Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 1340 Murchison.

    During these meetings, you will receive pertinent information on how to register (you must submit a state and local application), go over the rules and learn how to use proper signals.

    You will also have five opportunities for on-the-court, hands-on instruction with varsity officials who will help guide you through the process.

    We will also have 0n-court training at locations to be determined.

  • El Paso crew selected for Region 1-1A boys regional final; Marquez selected for girl’s state championship

    For the second year in a row, our chapter has been awarded a regional championship boys game by the University Interscholastic League.

    The EPBOA officials selected to officiate the Region 1-1A boy’s championship are Chuck Veliz, Freddie Gilpin and Charlie Miller.

    The game will be 2 p.m. Saturday at South Plains College in Levelland.

    State championship

    Jaime Marquez is one of 18 officials from across the state to be selected to officiate one of the girls state championship games at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday.

    Please take the time to recognize and congratulate these Officials on their selections.

    They will represent our Chapter well.

  • Bi-district officials selected by coaches for 2023-24 boy’s playoffs

    The boy’s playoff coaches in Class 5A and Class 4A selected their playoff crews.

    Two crews were also selected to officiate the District 1-6A seeding game between Franklin and Americas and a play-in game between Montwood and Eastlake on Friday night.

    Here is the playoff schedule. Please go out and support these hard-working officials.

    Friday

    District 1-6A seeding game (for first seed): Americas vs. Franklin at Bowie High School, 6 p.m. Officials are Danny Padilla, Andy Garcia and Victor De la Rosa.

    District 1-6A play-in game (for fourth seed): Montwood at Eastlake, 7:30 p.m. Officials are Zeke Sanchez, Victor Martinez and David Ramirez.

    Monday

    Class 4A Bidistrict: Clint at Bowie, 6 p.m. Officials are Chuck Veliz, Jaime Marquez and Antuan Washington.

    Class 5A Bidistrict: Del Valle vs. Andress at the Don Haskins Center, 6 p.m. Officials are Craig Pringle, Danny Padilla and Mike Henry.

    Class 5A Bidistrict: Bel Air vs. Chapin at the Don Haskins Center, 7:30 p.m. Officials are RJ McCullen, Zeke Sanchez and Christian Aguirre.

    Class 4A Bidistrict: Irvin at San Elizario, 6:30 p.m. Officials are Armando Romero, RJ McCullen and Antuan Washington.

    Class 4A Bidistrict: Riverside vs. Austin at the Don Haskins Center, 7:30 p.m. Officials are David Ramirez, David Aguirre and Jorge Bustamante.
